Gurhka Warlord
The Gurkha Warlord
I got the Gurkha Warlord some crazy massively discounted savings bundle of Gurkha cigars from Cigars International. I got a few different Gurkha cigars in the bundle, some of them the same, just box presses or double perfectos instead of the torpedo. I was curious as I've had some friends rave about the Gurkha brand, and if memory serves I've only smoked one until this one. Maybe it was a bit of foreshadowing, but, I wasn't that impressed with that particular Gurkha, and I definately wasn't with the Gurkha Warlord.
First thoughts, not much. Smelled of tobacco hay before lighting, and very mild in taste. There's a decent amount of smoke, which I think smelled quite nice, but that ould of been my Father-in-Law's smoke (although he had a Gurkha Warrior I believe, he said roughly the same thing).
Towards the middle, it started to go all wrong. At first, it was great in construction; burning almost perfectly. Once I hit the second third though, the cigar started to canoe a bit and burn unevenly. The flavor didn't change much, maybe a bit of a mild coffee and tobacco flavor coming through, but still very mild. The wrapper started to split where the "Warlord" band was at, and I eventually had to break it off.
Final third is where I finally I got a reward of tasting an actual full bodied smoke, but it was almost too late. This cigar took ages to get to work for me though, and it was almost like a chore to smoke it. Strong earthy tones of tobacco and coffee saw this bad lad laid to rest, which I was happy to ablige without smoking it down to the nub.
I've only smoked one of these so far, and I do have another one or two, but on this review I don't believe I'll be in a hurry to revisit it again. Overall, it's not a terrible cigar, but it's not my cup of tea and I definately don't think it should be classed as a full strength cigar. A mild medium would be a better classification for it.
