 ABOUT THE ELEGANT SMOKER:

I decided to start my personal cigar blog, The Elegant Smoker, over the summer of 2014. I've thought about creating one for sometime, but never just got around to doing it. I have been enjoying cigars for some years now, and I figured "why not share my findings with the world"? Unlike other cigar review sites, I will not be publishing much cigar related news, as there are loads of other sources to find out the latest news in the cigar world out. In saying that, I do keep fairly updated, such as the new premium cigar law possibly coming into effect in the US. I will be giving you my personal opinion on cigars that I have either bought or been given. My aim is to help recommend cigars, and their accessories, that I think you, as a consumer will enjoy. I realize that we are all on different levels in terms of cigar smoking, and also that we may have different palates. For instance, I prefer a strong maduro cigar, whereas someone my like a light natural cigar.

My name is Steven Fowler, I live in Newcastle, England, with my wife and son. I'm originally from a small town in Michigan in the United States, so please excuse any spelling of words such as honor and honour. I'm in the UK now, because of my wife, who I met on a game on Facebook. I know, it sounds funny and I get a weird look every time I tell someone, but yes honestly, yes we met on Facebook, and I wouldn't change it for the world. It makes us, us. I have duel nationality, American and British, now as well. I graduated from Full Sail University in the summer of 2012 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Graphic Design. I currently work for Nissan as a manufacturing technican though, so if you're European and drive a Juke or a Note, I've probably built it. My wife and son, both keep me pretty busy, and if I get any spare time, which isn't often, apart from smoking cigars, I do some freelance graphic design which can be found at my personal website, which isn't launched yet unfortunately due to time constraints. I do virtually everything with a computer, as I can run any Adobe Creative Suite program, but I particularly like logo design as well as business cards, invitations, etc. Not a major fan of website design as I hate HTML coding to be honest. Other hobbies of mine include, video games (PS4: Seminole81), tattoos, paintballing, motorsport, American football (Michigan Wolverines for college, and Detroit Lions for professional), and football (soccer for the Yanks reading this; club is Newcastle United and countries are obviously the US and England.)

My first cigar was something like a grape or cherry flavored Swisher Sweet, when I was under the legal smoking age of 18 and still living in the the United States. Naturally, I thought it was absolutely fantastic; it was my first cigar after all. From that first light, I instantly caught the bug to smoke these little cigars when I was out with friends. Of course, I have sense moved onto better hand rolled cigars, and normally only smoke them now as machine made are actually pretty awful! My intermediate family is very religious and don't believe in smoking or drinking, so I'm a bit of a black sheep in that sense now, but back then my parents had no idea. Unfortunately, trying to concel the smoke was a bit of a hassle and I fell out of the cigar smoking business. Luckily for me, I rekindled my love for cigars when I moved to the United Kingdom and met my wife's Father who also enjoys cigars regularly. I normally prefer non-Cuban cigars, and although I do smoke both, I feel Cuban's are generally overpriced (usually about £15/$25 per stick on average) and overrated for what you pay. You can get some very good, normally better in my opinion, non-Cuban's in the States for a fraction of the price (at most being around the £5/$7 mark).

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I will reply as soon as possible.

A bit of shamelessness. While at the moment, I am using a free website builder, I would like to get up and running on my own domain, etc. As you're probably all aware, websites are not cheap to run, nor is cigar smoking! If you wish to help me keep this website running, a small donation towards my domain name fees, hosting fees, etc would be greatly appreciated! Anything extra will go on recommended cigars! Thanks in advance!
